Brain Flowers

BRAIN FLOWERS and the BREAST-BRAIN drawings are a direct referance to the intelligence of women and their embodiement. By questioning, reclaiming and redefining the historical connection of two enormous arenas - femanism and nature - this work pays homage to the exquisite complexity and intelligence of both.

The BRAIN FLOWERS appear as large cameos on the page. Each cameo contains a plant whose flower is a human brain. These images question, contradict the the historic association of women and nature - and also readdress a revised eco-femanist association.

These drawings acknowedge the complicated and facile minds of the women I know and the women I respect as thinkers and active beings on the planet.

This work followed the militancy of the WOMEN IN ARMOR series as further exploration in imaging Feminist issues.

I have included the transitional piece, WOMEN IN ARMOR-ONION, in this group of drawings because it connects WOMEN IN ARMOR and the abstract ideas of THIN SKIN THICK SKIN with the other images in this gallery.

SEEING LEAF, also included here, is an image with specifically ecological conotation set in a femanist colour field.
