Nora Blanck spent her first eight years in the countryside of New York State, then moved to the suburbs of New York City, graduating from high school in 1965. Growing up in nature for her first eight years had a profound influence on her future work.
Nora studied at the Art Students League, New School For Social Research, Pratt Center for Contemporary Printmaking, The Boston Museum School, the San Franscisco Art Institute and Silvermine College of Art. Equally important was time spent in the museums and galleries of NYC and Boston. The social upheaval and experimentation of the 1960's was also a seminal influence in her work.
Nora moved to Vancouver BC, Canada in 1971 where she still lives with her husband, Tim Rose. In 1983 she became the mother of Bekka Blanck Rose, who is now a professional juggler.
Nora's teaching career has included the University of British Columbia as well as numerous other centers of adult learning. Nora was an instructor at Emily Carr University of Art and Design for 20 years, leaving in 2006 to pursue her own work and take care of her mother, Ethel Dorothy Blanck, who came to live - and die - with Nora and her family from 2007 to 2010.
